Development / Fundraising: Major Gifts

Job Description:

Terms of Employment: Full Time, At Will, Exempt
Reports to: Director of Development    
Position Location: Los Angeles or Remote
 

Position Objective:

To advance the success of Mercy For Animals by supporting the major gift work of the Development Department while creating and building long-term major gift strategies and efforts within the department

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist MFA’s philanthropy officers in daily administrative work
  • Identify, research, develop, and execute strategies for cultivating major gift donor prospects for philanthropy officer portfolios
  • Conduct new donor initial research and discovery calls in coordination with and on behalf of philanthropy officers
  • Maintain donor data and prepare funding proposals, stewardship reports, and other reports as required
  • Support philanthropy officers by scheduling donor meetings, preparing needed materials, transcribing donor contact reports, booking travel details, and so on
  • Process invoices and reimbursements for philanthropy officers
  • Help execute philanthropy officers’ strategies and create new strategies to develop and enhance MFA’s relationships with current and potential donors
  • Execute stewardship benefits that have been assigned by philanthropy officers
  • Identify and research connections and opportunities for philanthropy officers to reach people on MFA’s prospect list
  • Involve other development staff members and directors in the cultivation and stewardship process when appropriate
  • Serve as event planning liaison for major donor fundraising events
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
  • Adhere to all human resource and administrative policies and procedures 

Job Requirements:

Position Requirements:       

  • Experience working in development or donor relations (preferred)
  • Computer database literacy and experience with research tools (preferred)
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure of constant deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management efficiency, and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Team-oriented and “think-outside-the-box” mentality
  • Entrepreneurial, go-getter attitude with project management and teamwork track record
  • Friendly, positive demeanor and outstanding customer service skills
  • Willingness to travel and work some evenings and weekends
  • Personal commitment to the mission and values of the organization
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a vegan lifestyle
