Job Description:

Somewhere in the world, a child needs your help. A child who needs just two weeks of your time. A child who is eager to learn something you already know. As a Voluntourist you will leave your mark on this child’s world, and in turn this child’s world will leave its mark on you.

The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) is looking for dynamic, forward-thinking individuals of all ages and backgrounds to contribute to our international centers as part of our Voluntourist program.

Our foundation has five centers across Indonesia, Kenya and Thailand. With no central office, our entire organisation is fueled by the efforts of volunteers, just like you, from all over the world. Volunteers commit a minimum of two weeks, though commitments can range up to several years.

Who We Are

The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) is an international non-religious, non-political, and non-profit organisation that functions through the efforts of volunteers, sponsors, donors, and an Executive Leadership team from all over the world.

We use our five IHF Centers to provide education and safe Children’s homes to impoverished children in Indonesia, Kenya, and Thailand.

Our Mission:

To educate impoverished children—activating their highest potential—and educate global citizens, through real life experiences, about the realities of impoverished communities, the value of other cultures, and the many responsibilities of running an international NGO.

http://www.ihfonline.org

What We Bring to the Table

Embark on a cultural journey. Immerse yourself in what it means to live like a local as you see first-hand the different realities of life in an impoverished community. We provide all our volunteers with basic accommodation and meals at all five of our IHF Centers.  Volunteers live on site at our centers alongside their co-workers.

Most Affordable Volunteer Abroad Program

Our volunteer fees beat out even the most affordable Volunteer Abroad programs time after time. The weekly fee you pay will cover all accommodation costs as well as food at the IHF Center.

We provide you with these amenities for only:

  $150 per week, for an individual person;

  $200 per week, for married couples sharing a double bed (subjected to availability at the centers);

$75 per week per child under the age of 16 coming with their families.

Additional Costs

You will also be responsible to cover your flight, visa, travel insurance, and any other related costs. However, you can count on our team to help you with travel and visa planning. We also do our best to help you comply with guidelines to secure any grant or scholarship funding available to you through your university or civic organisation.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Voluntourist, you will gain hands-on experience in the field with an international non-profit and contribute your time and talents to substantially help provide impoverished youth with better opportunities and hope.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing four (4) hours of at-center tasks a day, six (6) days a week (Monday to Saturday morning). These tasks vary from center to center, day to day.

    • At all our centers you will assist with general building maintenance including (but not limited to): cleaning, organising, arranging, basic construction projects, etc.

    • At our Indonesian Education Centers, you will teach English to young students, for whom English is a tool to secure better jobs in the future.

    • In our Children’s Home in Kenya, daily tasks will include assisting with homework and organizing projects and activities for the children once they are back from the local schools. You will also

  • Sharing your ideas and expertise with the Co-Directors at your center. Center Co-Directors will be your direct supervisors and will work alongside you and guide you.

Requirements

  • Basic written and spoken English.

  • Minimum age requirement is 16 years old (if under 18 – must be traveling with parents).

  • Willing to make a commitment of minimum 2 weeks.

  • We value volunteers who have a sense of adventure. Someone who is creative and innovative, willing to take initiative and responsibility and easily adapts to new conditions and unexpected situations.

Why You Should Join Us

Aside from the four (4) hours of work a day, you are free to tour, explore, and go sightseeing! Hike exotic trails in Bali. Take in the sights and sounds of the busy capital of Jakarta. Explore Thailand’s ancient temples. Go on safari in Kenya.  Working may be your priority, but there will still be plenty of time to have fun!

What You Can Expect (Our Centers)

Each IHF center is different and follows the cultural code and norms of its host country.

Our Kenya Center in Nakuru is a Children’s Home that provides approximately 40 children, who would otherwise go without, with food, access to education, and a safe place to live. Nakuru is a friendly little town on the edge of Lake Nakuru and is home some of Africa’s most exciting and diverse wildlife.

In Indonesia, we have three (3) Educational Centers in Bali, Jakarta and Medan. All Indonesia Centers host free English, math and computer classes to provide low-income students with the opportunity to compete with wealthier students for scholarships and jobs. The centers also host special workshops every week to expose students to a wide variety of subjects and to instill a general love of learning in them.

Our center in Thailand is currently home to five older children from a nearby hill tribe. The youth from this marginalized community come to our Thailand Center for a stable home and the chance for a quality education.

We are always looking for volunteers who are passionate about our mission, who exhibit our core values, and who are ready to live like the locals and do grassroots work in the field.

Interested? What are you waiting for then?

Let’s get to know each other!
